Proof that I was born too late

My friends, especially my gay friends, are somewhat bemused by me. I appear to be some perverse kind of homo time traveller.

It's not my fault that young gay men of my generation have traded in disco, Anglo-Catholicism, and Stephen Fry for house music, Wicca, and Margaret Cho.

No, it's not your fault. They were heady days, but believe you me you didn't really miss anything of import. Besides, who doesn't love Margaret Cho?!

And if anyone ever tells you Boys in the Band wasn't really representative of the era - they're lying...

I think my favourite part is the hustlers. It's telling in terms of what was considered desirable at the time.

I recall vividly seeing the film when it first came out (ouch!) and saying to my companion "It's just like the gay party I had just attended..." Indeed there characters were perfectly representative. That would be a very slight exaggeration as there were no hustlers in attendance, but the conversation - exactly right. It was so hard, frankly, to find willing sexual partners for all the fears of undercover police that -known- hustlers were considered safe. Of course they weren't safe as many would happily slit your throat.

I escaped by dint of my tender age.

Wicca? I didn't know gay men were into Wicca?
