St Mike's time

I'm off to the St Michael's Youth Conference, Ontario, aka Prayer Book Society boot camp, so no posts this week. I note this despite having a feeling that no more than a dozen people follow The Rose Maniple.

Hey, we're not all chatterers!

The bootcamp and conference sound fascinating. I wish there were such a thing in England or that there'd been one when I was young(er). Mind you, when I was a teen, I wasn't even an Anglican yet.

Is this a Church of Canada thing or Continuing or both?

We really have to get away from the idea that the PB and orthodox Anglicanism are only for stuffy old buffers.

St Mike's is sponsored by the Prayer Book Society of Canada. The priests on staff are in orders in the Anglican Church of Canada. We do have a pair of sisters who are Reformed Episcopalians, but they are the exception.

The Reformed Episcopal Church has nuns? Who knew?

Biological sisters, that is...

I came to St Mike's late, as I came to Anglicanism late in my youth. Mind you, we have had non-Anglicans. My first year there was a young Pentecostal who at every mention of God the Father asked "Is that Jehovah?"

The SMYCs are based on a family of conferences in the US, but are slightly different. The American conferences, I'm told, are more explicitly and uniformly Anglo-Catholic (we have some Evangelical representation) and have daily Mass. (We have Morning and Evening Prayer daily, and a votive of St Michael and All Angels on the last morning). Attendance at the Offices in the US is optional. I also hear they go in for bizarre disciplinary practices (along the lines of, let's spontaneously get on our knees and confess our sins).

Greetings from "the city of the New Jerusalem" aka Baltimore, Maryland. I guess I would be Blogfollower #14. Shall we take up a collection to lure you to the Philadelphia-Baltimore-DC corridor for a visit?

One of these days I'll make it to S. Clement's, Philadelphia, for Corpus Christi!

See you there no doubt. It is unlike anything else on these shores.
